TrAMS group of the National & Kapodistrian University of Athens announced the research visit of Maria de la Luz Tovar Salvador, a Ph.D. student in Environmental Chemistry from the University of Cádiz (UCA) located in the province of Cádiz, Andalusia, Spain. Luz’s research stay from March to July 2024 was supported by a pre-doctoral researcher grant (Spanish FPI), awarded by the Spanish Ministry of Science and Innovation (MCIN).
Maria de la Luz Tovar Salvador, who is implementing her doctoral thesis in the CREMA research group at UCA, under the supervision of Prof. Pablo A.Lara-Martin, focuses her research on the determination, distribution, and biodegradation of emerging contaminants in various environments, including water and sediment samples.
During her scientific stay in the TrAMS group, Luz advanced her research, analyzed her samples utilizing GC-APCI-QTOFMS, and received training on the in-house workflows developed for suspect and non-target screening. The aim was to investigate the biodegradation of specific emerging compounds and identify the potential transformation products in the environmental samples of her study. Additionally, she was trained to in-house developed tools for trend analysis (TrendTrAMS) and MetaboScape 2024 software (Bruker Daltonics, Bremen, Germany). Some of these results were presented at the 34th International Conference of the Society of Environmental Toxicology and Chemistry (SETAC Europe), held on 5-9 May 2024, in Seville, Spain.
This collaborative research stay has yielded valuable results and laid the basis for future joint environmental projects between our institutions.
We thank Maria de la Luz Tovar Salvador for her dedication and hard work during her stay and wish her all the best in the continuation of her Ph.D. studies.
