Dana Pierina Orlando Véliz, a PhD Candidate from the Spanish Institute of Environmental Assessment and Water Research (IDAEA-CSIC), carried out a research stay over the past three months (September to December 2024) in the Prof. Thomaidis research group (TrAMS) of National and Kapodistrian University of Athens.

Dana Orlando is a Chemist with a master’s degree in Analytical Chemistry by the University of Barcelona. Currently she is implementing her PhD research in Analytical Chemistry and Environment at IDAEA-CSIC, Barcelona, Spain under the supervision of Dr. Miren López de Alda Villaizán. Her PhD research is specialized in the identification of Contaminants of Emerging Concern (CECs) by Suspect and Non-target Screening approaches in different environmental matrices and determination based on Liquid Chromatography coupled to High Mass Spectrometry techniques.

During her research stay, Dana got familiar with Trapped Ion Mobility Spectrometry (TIMS) incorporated to High Resolution Mass Spectrometry (HRMS). She used LC-VIP HESI-TIMS-QTOF MS (timsTOF Pro 2) to analyze surface water extracts gathered from Antarctica, aiming to identify CECs through targeted and untargeted post-acquisition data treatment workflows. Experienced members of our group in TIMS-HRMS trained and supported her with the analysis of the extracts and the data processing.

Dana, we are looking forward to continuing our collaboration and hosting you again in our laboratory! We wish you the best of luck in the continuation of your Ph.D. studies!
